Paediatric Dysphagia Support
Paediatric dysphagia — the clinical term for swallowing difficulties in children — can affect babies and children of all ages, and can have a significant impact on nutrition, health, and quality of life. If you're concerned about your child's swallowing, feeding or breathing during mealtimes, specialist assessment is an important first step.
At Eat Chat Play, we provide expert paediatric dysphagia assessments and feeding plans for children across Berkshire, led by Chelsea Ridge, a specialist speech and language therapist with advanced training in paediatric feeding and swallowing.
Chelsea has specialist experience working with children with complex medical histories and feeding difficulties, including those with neurological conditions, prematurity, structural differences and developmental needs.
Signs of swallowing difficulties in children:
-
Coughing, choking or gagging frequently during or after feeds/meals
-
Wet or gurgly voice after eating or drinking
-
Taking a very long time to eat or tiring quickly during meals
-
Recurring chest infections or unexplained respiratory problems
-
Distress, arching or refusal during feeding
-
Difficulties transitioning from bottle or breast to solids
-
A history of prematurity, neurological condition, or structural difference affecting feeding
